Superpubblico #2
(within Superterrestre)
The SuperBus Stop in Via di Rifredi is the final outcome of Superpubblico, part of the City of Florence’s Facciamo Festa programme. After a spatial and social analysis, SuperTerrestre identified the abandoned canopy of the former market near Piazza Dalmazia as a latent public asset. Working with a broad network of stakeholders — local associations, municipal offices, neighbourhood groups and the public library system — the team carried out spatial tests using the mobile furniture DESC. These explorations showed the strategic need to intervene: the canopy is a natural waiting point, had become a degraded void, and its lack of lighting produced insecurity.
As the final phase of the Facciamo Festa project in Florence’s Q5 district, a tactical urbanism intervention was implemented: new lighting, street art, and temporary furniture for the bus shelter on Via di Rifredi. An intervention aimed at providing immediate—albeit minimal—responses to citizens’ needs, with a view toward future permanent transformations.
Two seating elements for waiting for public transport were installed at a key junction that previously lacked them, along with a free book-exchange point, created thanks to the collaboration with Patto per la lettura.
The project was carried out together with Quartiere5, Arci Firenze, SMS Rifredi, Cooperativa Il Girasole, Banda del Buonumore ODV, Tocca a Noi, Bilioteche Comunali, with contributions from CCN Dalmazia, Alia servizi ambientali, Silfi, and many others.
Social research and installations were curated by Superterrestre APS, for a #superpublic city.
