Ceci n’est pas un projet
The term regeneration derives from the Latin genus, generis, meaning birth. Urban regeneration therefore implies the emergence of a new form of urbanity. Since urbanity is a collective production, its regeneration must be the result of collective actions and shared efforts.
This is the starting point of every project developed by Orizzontale, which led this process. Prossima Apertura is the name of the urban regeneration process in the Toscanini neighborhood in Aprilia. Urbanity is the result of the interaction between the built fabric and the social fabric—two interwoven textures. Rehabilitating the built fabric does not necessarily imply the rehabilitation of the social one. When we speak of urban regeneration, we should therefore refer to projects, or processes, that enable the social fabric to flourish.
